Terry Goodkind, my dear friend - he is a great storyteller, but... (a big but and a request)Please - PLEASE... edit your books.I have memorized his whole series, thus far, due to the amount he repeats himself.He literally summarizes each book, from all the books before, in each new book - to the point that it feels like the main book may only bee 100 pages.Its excellent if I want to make a movie true to his story - as, man, I got that thing memorized.Not just a summary, like the Inheritance Cycle from Christopher Paloni, (which would be fine), its literal repetition in the books themselves..i.e. For Soul of Fire- 47 repeats: but let me clarify how this is counted...1: it does not count as a repeat when a character is narrating the past events to another character(or the number would be larger)2: it does not count when he repeats into another 'tree' of repeats.(He literally branched off to everything happening at the time - it was hilarious - happens more than once)So, 47 repeats not counting the above... So good - and great for the person with a mind that forgets a lot. :)Its relatively consistent, because the repeats before that was 45 (book prior to this)It makes me think he was trying to hit a target page count... seriously.AnywayStory is fun though... I'm enjoying each book in the series a little less than the last and after looking at reviews of the upcoming few, think this is where Richard, Kahlan, and I part ways. The worldbuilding is wonderful. I wish the books were more tightly edited. But the never ending trope of stereotypically awful behavior by women is killing me. How often has the (sometimes amazingly) competent and powerful Kahlan taken time out of heated melee to whine about her love not paying attention to her?? Come on. The women characters are generally shallow and stupid and pander to the worst stereotypes. The only thing worse are the incessant, but very clearly written(!) descriptions of rape and violence to women, which tend to be more detailed than those of the men's fights and leave a very unpleasant residue.
